A BETTER WAY TO RESTORE TEETH

HIGHER STANDARDS

Most people do not think much about fillings until they need one. You go to the dentist with a cavity, the tooth is fixed, and you go home. It can seem like a simple appointment, but the steps taken during that visit can make a real difference in how the tooth feels afterward and how well the filling holds up. At Burton Dentistry/Burton Family Dental, we take those steps seriously.

Rubber Dams: Why We Use Them

Your mouth is naturally wet, and that’s how it should be, but a wet environment isn’t ideal when we are bonding a filling to a tooth. For fillings, our dentists use a rubber dam. It is a thin protective sheet of latex or nitrile that gently separates the tooth we are treating from the rest of the mouth. Patients may not always know to ask for it, but it is one of those details that can change the quality of the appointment.

The rubber dam helps keep saliva away from the tooth, which gives the filling material a cleaner surface to bond to. It also keeps water, tools, and debris from getting in your mouth while we work. The appointment feels cleaner, the area is easier to manage, and the finished filling is more likely to last.

A Biological Approach to Everyday Dentistry

Your health is important, and we prioritize it with the materials we choose, the way we work, and the time we take with each patient. Even something as common as a filling deserves that level of thought. We want the tooth to be repaired in a way that feels good when you bite, looks natural, and helps keep your mouth healthy for years to come.
